As we sit here in the hospital, waiting for the doctors to decide the best course
of action for our Aunt Ellen, who has fallen and fractured a hip, we are
talking about the need to being appreciative for what we have. Twenty four
hours ago we were coming home from lunch, enjoying our day when tragedy stuck.
It was great day, and we were taking for granted the mobility that all of our
family had. In one moment everything changed. Ellen, who has enjoys her
mobility, could no longer walk.
If we can walk and talk, think, and function normally, we are blessed. When we go
through life, we tend to take our blessing for granted.
Oh, that men would give thanks to the
LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! For
He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.
As we go through life, we get use to, and take for granted our abilities, our
lives, our jobs, and those around us. As we have learned this past year,
nothing should be taken for granted.
This summer, we went on vacation, and
before we returned from our break, a wonderful lady at work passed away.
Everyone expected her to return and start her job as usual. She just started
feeling ill one day and passed within twenty-four hours. Most of us did not
have the opportunity to say goodbye. Her life was cut short and we were left
with the reality of our unspoken regrets.
Do not
withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.
Proverbs
3:27
We need to start today and make sure that we tell those around us that they we love and care for them. Today is the day we need to tell those around us that they are important to us. We never know when we will see them for the last time, and we want to live our lives with no regrets.
This Week's Challenge:
Where ever you are at right now, stop and
give thanks for your abilities and your life. If you are employed, be thankful
that you have a job and are able to make a living. If you are unemployed but
are employable, be thankful that you have the ability to hold down a job. Being
able to work is a blessing that not everyone receives. Next, you need to make a
list of the people in your life that make your life better. Now take that list
of names and let each person on the list know how you feel about them and how
they have impacted your life.
Be thankful for each day you have for you never know when it will be your last.
When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your
strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no
reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.
Tecumseh
Praise the LORD! Oh, give thanks to the
LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Who can utter the mighty
acts of the LORD? Who can declare all His praise?
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down
from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not changelike shifting
shadows.
James 1:17
